Residency by investment: questions to ask before you start

A short list of questions to put to a licensed partner before any application is considered.

Residency and citizenship by investment are statutory programmes. The rules belong to the authorities that administer them, and the application belongs with a professional who is licensed for that work. The questions below are a way to prepare for that conversation. They do not describe any particular programme.

Questions worth asking

  • Is the person advising on the application licensed for that work in the jurisdiction that runs the programme?
  • What status does a successful application confer, and which rights does it leave unchanged?
  • Which family members can be included, and what evidence is required for each of them?
  • What documentation of the source of funds will the authorities expect?
  • How would the application, or a later move, affect tax residence? That question belongs with an independent tax advisor.
  • What obligations continue after an application is approved?
  • What is the position if an application is not approved?

Every case is assessed individually. Vanttax coordinates the conversation with a licensed partner; the partner and the competent authorities determine eligibility and the outcome.
